Thought of the Day

There are many benefits and advantages being Malaysians, but not for music fans for the rules and regulations imposed on the artistes, especially female, who want to hold concerts here are ultra-strict. A female artist must be covered from her shoulders to her knees and is prohibited from doing the following actions: jumping, shouting or throwing of objects onstage or at the audience. Talent may also not hug or kiss, and their clothes must not carry obscene or drug-related images or messages.
The ideal costume for the ladies

As if these gila (crazy) rules don't scare them away, those conservative Muslim groups would held protests and all, trying to get the concerts banned. They would sent their protests to the Government asking for the show to be cancelled, claiming that these concerts are too obscene, too sexy, clash with our traditional value, insulting eastern culture, belittling local artistes, cause losses to the nation's economy (HUH???), and, here's the best part, supporting Israel's war policy. WTH...
The party behind all the protests

Here's are few artistes who had faced trouble when trying to please their fans here:

Beyonce
She was deemed a bad influence on moral values and dress sense of Malaysians. She had axed her show in protest against the strict dress code and over fears of a Muslim outcry over her show. According to report, she also balked at Government rule over sexy outfits and running and jumping on stage. Basically, she refused to wear overall, be motionless and sing. The irony was that she performed in Jakarta, Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country over Malaysia.

Gwen Stefani
She faced the same situation when she first planned to have her concert here. In fact, I think she had it worse. A group of 10,000-member National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students had protested that her revealing outfits and cheeky performances clashed with traditional Islamic values.PAS also blamed her for promoting promiscuity and corrupting the nation's youth. Yet, she went ahead with her concert (with costume change and all) and pleased her fans. Her respond: "I've been in the music industry for 20 years and this is the first time that I'm facing opposition from people who have misunderstood me. I'm not a bad girl."

Avril Lavigne
Too sexy. Seriously, Avril, too sexy? And the promoting wrong values just day ahead of our independence day (her original date was 29th Aug but was pushed forward to 28th)...as if we're less independence when she's around.

Mariah Carey
Even the great Mariah Carey can't had her way when she was trying to hold a concert here. While she managed to secure a permit, she was clearly not happy about the rules that throughout her concert, she had ZERO costume change.

Rihanna
The latest artist who face problems when trying to have her debut concert here. According to PAS federal Territory Youth Chief Kamaruzaman Mohamad, her brand of music is insulting eastern culture, her concert causes losses to the nation's economy and by allowing it, we're supporting Israel's war policy! The fate of the concert remains in uncertainty.

Mr Kamaruzaman, the joy-killer

The reason I wrote this post is because of what I read on the comic section of The Star today. I was ROFL reading this.

Gambling III

Die lo, I'm turning into an addict and my room becoming an underground casino.

Last night, we played from 11++pm til almost 5.30am, 6 hours of nonstop transferring my money to other players. Yes, I lost, again.

Throughout these 6 hours, we had played quite a number of different games such as Big 2, blackjack, poker, etc. If we had stuck with a single game, I don't think we can last that long.

Anyhow, after that, I tried to get some sleep as I have to wake up at 8am to do my laundry. Even though I'm quite tired, I was rather restless.

With just two hours of sleep, I had to endure 9am-6pm classes, a total of 9 hours in a row (I skipped the first class though). Super sien (boring) the whole day. Almost fell asleep during one of the class.

Now, just safely reached home, my eyes were getting heavy. I guess it's time to sleep. Getting ready for CNY!

Gambling II

I just one should not brag about one's winning. Otherwise you lose back your winning. I learned my lesson now.

That's what I'm doing these few days...

Maths Quiz

1.45pm
Right now, sitting in cafe, just came back from Maths Quiz. No, I'm not the participant. Rather, I'm the helper for the event. Damn shit ah, I woke up at 6am in the morning just for the stupid thing. On normal day, I'm not awake till like 9/10am. If got morning class, just skip la. Hehe.

About to go even though not really awake
7am look like 1am
getting to work?

The sky still dark-and it's almost 7am-when I walked to DUP (Dewan Utama Pelajar aka Students' Main Hall aka exam centre) where the quiz was held. And guess what, I'm the ONLY person there. NOT A SINGLE MATHS QUIZ ORGANIZER WAS THERE!!!!! WTH...I'M SO GONNA KILL THAT FELLA WHO TRICKED ME!!!
DUP...looks how empty it is

I SMS-ed that fella, asking why he's not there when he's the one who told me to go before 7am only to be told that examiner (which he was) had to arrived before 7.15am! WTH...

15 min later,

7.07pm
Damn the Tekun (my hostel's name) WIFI connection. Around 2 something, it cut me off, leaving my post hanging. After much unsuccessful tries, I went back to my room to take a short nap. Set alarm at 4.30pm only to wake up at 6.30pm. 4 hours nap! Wonders how I'm gonna sleep tonight?

Anyway, back to the quiz. 15 min later, he showed up. Then, followed by others. It's strongly support my believe: puntualiality is a virtue not valued by us Malaysians.

The moment the others had arrived, things were getting busy and chaotic. For them, at least. While they were moving here and there, I was standing at a corner, watching things unfold before me. Not that I don't want to help. Just that the department I'm in-refreshment-only began to work when the foods had arrived. I did help out, OK.

I'm so free til can take pictures

Once the participants arrived, which were high school students from around Penang, the atmosphere was getting much alive. Most of them were pretty excited to take part in it. Around 9am, all the students and teachers accompanied them entered the exam hall to be briefed. All the organisers and helpers also entered the hall, except us from refreshment department as we have to prepare food.

Revising?

Soon after, when the students had their quizzes, the teachers came out to had their refreshment. An hour later, the students had theirs. In between these two, we had ours.

Students' nasi tomato...these extra fews were eaten by us refreshment people...hehe
Even between break also they had discussions

Those from the refreshment department can leave once we finished cleaning up the places. And we finished before 12pm, few hours earlier than the rest. Hehe. But we didn't go back. We went into the hall, watching the students getting ready for Round 3.

I must say, when I had children, I'm considering to relocate to Penang because these Penang students are so competitive. They really go all out. Even though in Round 3, they can discuss among their teammates but from what I witnessed, most of them tried to solve the questions on their on. That's rather sad because the time allocated for each questions are very limited.

And boys, their Maths skills are really amazing especially those from SMK Jit Sin and SMK Chung Ling, Penang. They're really good. After the questions were shown ala slide show, it took them only a small fraction of the time given to produce the answers. And most of the time, it's the right one too. Oh, by the way, it's a Siapa-Cepat-Dia-Dapat round (don't know how to translate, don't bother to).

Even I, the Maths undergrads, can't even compete with them. Out of 20 questions, only 1 I managed to find the answer faster than them. Using a new method they can't possibly know at their stages (I went through the same education, that's why I know) unless they had devour themselves with Advanced Calculus.

3rd round
Even teachers took pictures of the questions!

Overall, a nice 1st half of the day. Talked a lot even if I had to use my extremely limited Mandarin. Had to mishmash with Cantonese and Hokkien whenever necessary. I'm gonna improve on my bloody mother tongue.

Your Votes Count!

And no, I'm not talking about the by-election in the Kuala Terengganu though you should vote as well. I'm talking about the upcoming MPP (Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar or Student Representative Council-direct translation) election in USM. Upcoming as in tomorrow morning. The reason I'm writing about this (when I can write something much better) is that the seriousness these contenders all exhibiting. I mean, it's just some stupid student council who promises a lot but delivers little.

I mean, they went around the campus giving flyers and brochures, promoting themselves. They even invade other people's lectures (during break la, don't want the lecturers screw them, right?) to give a short speech.

There was one fella who entered my class during break to give his 'talk'. He was so penuh dengan semangat berkobar-kobar. You can feel his vibes spreading across the lecture hall only to make it filled with laughter when he started telling us his slogan. OMG, it was so funny.

Kalau tak boleh ingat nama Ng Chee Wei, ingat Cheesy Wedges.
(If you can't remember the name Ng Chee Wei, remember Cheesy Wedges)
Ingat Cheesy, ingat Chee,
Ingat Wedges, ingat Wei.
INGAT,
INGAT CHEESY, INGAT CHEE,
INGAT WEDGES, INGAT WEI,
INGAT CHEESY WEDGES, INGAT CHEE WEI.

He kept rambling about his name and Cheesy Wedges, any thought of voting for him just vanished into thin air. Come on, who want to elect Cheesy Wedges to represent us?

But apparently, cheesy slogans are the It things in USM. Not only Mr. Ng who used such funny catchphrase, a lot most of the contenders did the same too.

Here's another catchphrase:

NAMPAK DIVA BAWA VIVA,
DALAM VIVA ADA SIVA.

MAKAN KARI HARI-HARI INGATLAH SAYA OOI HWA REE.

So, I'm like wondering, IF I were to compete in the election, which one should be my catchphrase?

BILA BERADA DI JALAN SENGET,
INGATLAH SAYA CHUAH SENG AIK.

OR...

TIAP-TIAP PAGI MAKAN TELUR (EGG),

INGATLAH SAYA CHUAH SENG AIK.

Super Bored!!!

At this exact moment, I'm at the library, with my Linear Algebra notes and exercises spreading on the desk waiting for me to touch it, and yet I'm reading people's blogs and listening to Taylor Swift's album. I'm BLOODY BORED now!!! Damn you, Tuesday. How come there's so little classes on you and yet your counterpart Thursday fills up my time from 9am to 6pm without any break? It's not my poor time management skill that make me ended up like this. Just that somehow, all the un-ponteng-able classes (they check attendants!) are held on that day.

I'm counting the time now, willing it to reach 5pm cause then I can have SOMETHING to do. Oh, Lord, give me some mood to study la.....

My Grandpa's 80th Birthday

My sister so cute right?

Today, we went to celebrated my grandpa's 80th birthday at Restaurant Kok Thai opposite Kinta City Shopping Complex. 80th birthday! Imagine what my grandpa had seen and experienced throughout his life. Wonder if I can live long enough to experience my 80th birthday?

All my grandpa's sons and daughters (4 sons and 3 daughters), son-in-laws and daughter-in-law (3 son-in-laws), grandsons and granddaughters (2 grandsons and 5 granddaughters) and granddaughter-in-law and potential grandson-in-laws were all there to celebrate his big day.

My family
My auntie's family
the Birthday Boy Man(seated, 2nd from right)
My aunties, uncles, cousins and their boyfriends
Grandpa wanna sleep already...

And boy, we had a blast. My dad brought his Johnny Walker scotch whiskey to the dinner and kinda forced everyone to drink with him. Well, not to say forced, but more like a saleman sweet-talking you into buying his products. But his skill might had been bit rusty cause only few entertained him. I myself was one of them (I'm not entertaining him...more like I want to drink myself...hehe...).

At first, the taste itself was no that nice to drink. My first cup was a bit diluted since it was mixed with water and ice (like what everybody was having) since it contain 40-46% of alcohol. My second and subsequent cups were just whiskey and ice as I wanna try it without water. Surprisingly, it's much more bearable and nicer in taste. According to my dad, the more you drink, the less the taste gonna budge you (more or less of what he said). Therefore, I had 5 cups, I think, before we even sang birthday song. Even after the fifth one, I'm still OK (I guess I had rather high tolerance of alcohol?). Or so I thought. When I try to stand up to sing the birthday song, I suffered from SLIGHT DIZZINESS. Haha. Luckily, just SLIGHTLY dizzy. Not yet drunk.
My no-idea-how-many-I-had cup

Anyhow, I still prefer beer. Hehe.

The cake
When we finished singing the song...

After the dinner, we went to my auntie's house to continue our chit chat. My grandpa was tired already, therefore, was taken back home. You guys must know that our houses (my family, grandpa's and my aunties) are all clustered together. All are located within walking distances. Yet, whenever we go to visit them, we (as in only my family) would drive to their houses! Haha. By this time, my 'hangover' was long gone already.

We went back around 11+ pm.

Oh yea. The food. OMG, it's so delicious. Some pics are missing (not sure how as I took all of them!) but I'll find them. Posted here are the order of appearance. Haha.

Longevity bun
Chicken
Steamed cod fish
Sea cucumber, broccoli, mushroom all mixed together
Yam basket
Yin Yang Prawn
Longevity noodle
Dessert

Another song I love right now.

Beauty and the Geek, My Version

Before I begin, I'm wanna clarify something first and foremost. I am NOT a geek! You may called me a nerd (but I won't admit it!) but, hell, I'm not a geek. OK?

Now that had been clarified, I'm gonna begin. You may (or may not) heard of the reality TV show, Beauty and the Geek, that was aired on 8TV few years back. The premise of the show consists of a group of "Beauties" (young women who have relied primarily on their looks and are intellectually inept) and a group of "Geeks" (young men who have relied primarily on intellect and are socially inept) who are paired up to compete as couples for a shared $250,000 and other prizes. Throughout the show, the uneliminated groups will have a makeover. Or, rather, the geeks will have makeovers.

Enough rambling. Cut to the chase.

I just had mine today. Hehe, I had my hair trimmed/cut/shortened and dyed. If anyone of you had read Eric's blog and knew about his new look, let me get this straight. I did NOT copy him. I kinda planned for it quite a while and had only took action. Also, with my sister contributing half of the expenses (I think she can't tahan my cincai look already!), I have more reason to have my hair trimmed and dyed. It's just happened that he had his few days earlier. Haha, it's nice to have a sister who hate your hair. Hehe. Thanks, sis!

Paid a fortune for the new hairdo. Here's the pics. Tell me what you think about it.

Without specs

With specs

Should I or should I not drop the glasses? I'm not blind without it but still...Should I get myself contact lens? I hate the trouble of taking care of it. Too lazy.

By the way, my dad said I look more like a drug addict with my new hairdo! Haha!

On a side note, I love this song by DBSK. Though I have no idea what are they singing, but I still like it!

why have i fallen in love with u - dbsk

For those who don't know Malay (or Malaysian language), can't tahan means can't stand/tolerate and cincai means whatever, but in the context, it means messy.
