By the way,对不对我用的字?哈哈。。。

Ha, back to my own language...writing in Mandarin is BLOODY hard...I mean, I constantly need to translate my thoughts which is mostly English into Mandarin...then need to look into dictionary for the characters...BLOODY HARD WORKS!!!

Anyhow, the whole post for those who dunno Chinese is about me writing calligraphy for the first time. Haha...Bloody ugly...Will improve further...

Kung Fu Night 2009

Yes, the show was on last Saturday and only now I begin to write about it. No, not because I'm lazy, more like I don't have pictures to include in it. And now that I got the pictures from my friend, I'm gonna do a brief post about it. Yes, my laziness simply outdo my desire to write more than necessary.

OK, the show was fantastic. Saw a lot of martial arts performances by the members of the USM Kung Fu Club. Some of it were good, some were outstanding, while some rather weak. My favourite were the performances by the Shaolin team and Tai Chi team, Drunken Fist, face changing performance by a lady from China (forgot her name), drums and so on. There were a lot of performances and some sketches as well. And Choy Fong was there performing as well.

Lion dance
Performance by the Tai Chi team...beautiful
Can you spot Choy Fong?
Performance by the Shaolin team...entertaining
Drunken fist...amazing body bending

Besides the perfomances from the members, they had invited a lady from China to perform bian lian 变脸 (face changing), one of the Chinese dramatic art, qigong 气功 performance by one of the sifu, and aikido. One thing that I feel like mentioning were the four emcees. While the three ladies were good at their jobs, the only guy emcee were an unnecessary addition to the already almost-flawless group. In fact, if I can overcome my stage fright, I might even be a better emcee than him. Haha...

p/s: Yes! I finally can skate! Though not as pro as I wanted to be, at least I can skate without relying on walls. OK, I did fell a few times, 5 times in fact, but I learned from my falls. Unlike you who so happily said that you did not fall, but did you REALLY skate? Haha *evil grin*...I might even buy a pair of roller skate once I'm really good at it.

I Sang My Heart Out!

Went out with my friend, Jacyn today to Gurney Plaza. We're just realized that we had been seeing each other for almost every day this week except on Monday and each meeting lasted more than 2 hours! And we're gonna face each other AGAIN later tonight for the Malam Kung Fu 2009.

Anyhow, back to the outing. We arrived at Gurney around 12 somethings, after almost AN HOUR of bus ride. That one hour was spent on solely crapping purposes, a skill somehow both of us excelled at. Hehe.

Upon reaching, we went to explore for a while. It's her first time after all. After that, we went to the Seoul Garden Steamboat and BBQ to have our lunchs. The environment here is very Korean-ish, with K-pop songs accompanied our meals. The food there were very delicious, especially their chicken and tom yam squid. Both of us were like kept eating the meat and seafood only. But instead of stuffing ourselves like what normal people would do when they went for steamboat and BBQ, we just ate till satisfied. Full, but not till wanna vomit full.

The food there...

Then, we went to Red Box for some karaoke session. Haha, this is the main reason we went to Gurney in the first place. Another first time for both of us. Somehow, just this week alone, I had few of my first time with her. First time skating, first time learning to dance (don't mention it!), first time karaoke-ing. Wonders what other first time are we gonna have! Haha!

We really sang our lungs out. Since both of us are English educated, the majority of the songs are English. And all are either duets or love songs. Two single people singing love songs...quite depressing come to think of it.

But I managed to sing one Chinese song, 小酒窝, and one Japanese song. And the Chinese song is without pin yin! Talked about accomplishment! OK, confession. I sang that WHILE listening to the song with my handphone. Come on, cut me some slack! I can only sing that song either with pin yin or by listening to the singers singing it. We really utilised the three hours we had for the room. And about that room, it's like so HUGE that it can fit in a group of at least 10 people. But somehow, we were given that room. So spacious and comfortable. Though the waiter was a bit annoying, kept disrupting our singing only!

Such a big room...
...for only two of us! Shaky hands...T.T

As for dinner, we went for Secret Recipes for their delicious cakes. I ordered Yogurt Cheesecake while she had Hazelnut Cheesecake. While mine is not bad, I prefered her one. Haha! Her one nicer as the nuts in it made it crunchy and more delicious! End up exchanging with her.

Then, we went to the bus stop (of sort), waiting for our ride home. The bus stop was by the side of the river (or sea?), a romantic spot for Penang couples to spend their days staring at, according to her.
Views of the dried up sea/river

I guess Penangnites have a weird idea about romanticism. Haha.

We crapped and crapped again, while waiting AND while in the bus. We would just talked about anything. Sometimes, we will burst into songs, especially those from Moulin Rouge. One thing she had said was rather interesting. She said that when she was with her English educated friends, they would be talking about english movies or series, with her Chinese educated friends, Japanese or Korean shows, with her Hindi friends, Hindi movies. With me, she can talked about anything kind of shows, be it english, Jap/Korean, and even Hindi. Yes, I even watched Hindi movies. I took it as a compliment that I'm knowledgeable. Haha.

1st Time Roller Skating!

Haha, today I went to roller-skate with my friend at the Queensbay skating rink. It's the first time for both of us, therefore, we were like falling nonstop. Well, she had it more than me, I had to say. Hehe...

Since it's weekday and we went late in the morning, we have the rink to ourselves. The place was vacant of human presences except those who worked there, which make it less embarrassing to fall down.

I had to admit, I fell down almost immediately once I tried to enter the rink with the roller skates on. The hard landing on my arse made me realised that I'm gonna end up with few bruises on my body. And I'm right, though not as much as I thought would have. Haha.

The first few rounds were like trying to get our feet to go with the flow. And to avoid falling again (but failed la). Anyhow, after some guidance from a sifu of sort, we were like spreading our wings flying gracefully around the rink. Okok, that is a bit over exaggerated. But at least less falls and more swift movements. Like what she had said, "Wow, you look like you can skate already." Haha, looks can be deceiving. But I dare to say that I'm can skate already, though really teruk la. Gonna improve on it.
Even after our falls and all, we're still in 1 piece...

It's really a lot of fun mix with some bumps here and there. Can't wait for next round. Haha...

And Rapid Penang SUCKS. After our lunch, we went to the bus stop to wait for our ride back Uni only to bounded in there for like an hour+. Wth...End up crapping and crapping nonstop to pass the time. So dehydrated when I reached back with all the saliva lost from the crapping.

I'm PK now financially. Now having bread for dinner. Haha...

p/s I have no idea what my friend had been through until yesterday. What a bad friend I have been for not asking. It's just that you seem so trouble-free everytime I saw you that it never occur to me that you have been through so much lately. And I thank you for sharing your problems with me. It means a lot to me.

Movie, Movie, Movie!

Haha, this weekend I end up watching three different movies, one at a day, 2 totally unintentional while the remaining 1 I intended to watch it.

Friday, I went to watch Ong Bak 2, a Thai action movie. My verdict? Avoid it at all mean unless you are into mindless fighting movie where the protagonist fought NON STOP throughout the movie. I mean, come on, at least put in some nice storyline to get the movie going, but no, they just kept him fighting and fighting. So boring. And to make it worst, in the final battle where the protagonist kept throwing punches and kicks to survive only to die in the end. I mean, if I were to know that I can't escape death at the end, I won't bother wasting my last remaining energy fighting. I would rather just kill myself to save me the torture I were to get.

Then, on Valentine's night, I went out with my friends for dinner. Haha, luckily, I did not spend the day alone sulking at my room. After dinner, we went to Gurney Plaza to watch Slumdog Millionaire. Wow, there were a lot of couples watching movies that night. Anyhow, the movie itself was AWESOME. It was one of the nicest movie I had seen this year. It's really heart-wrenching seeing what the kids from the slums in India have to do to keep living. Besides the horrible living condition, they have to brave a cruel world in order to survive.

I feel that the movie did a great job in showing us the true side of India, one that we won't be able to see in any Bollywood movies. A side of India being haunted by poverty and criminals. There's one scene in the movie where the a mob boss of sort blinded a little kid who can sing well because a blind singer can earn double. Yet, the movie has its humour and romantic moments, earning itself the brand "feel good" movie.

And in the final scene where the main characters went singing and dancing, I found myself laughing at the jab the director was making to the Bollywood movies. As most people know that songs and dances are a must in any Bollywood movies, the director purposely inserted that last scene as if making a mockery. Anyhow, this movie is a must-watch and I have the feeling it's gonna win big in the upcoming Oscars.

And speaking of Oscars, today I watched another Oscars-nominated movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. While a lot of my friends were raving about the movie, I myself find it's just a good movie, nothing extraordinary about it. OK, the premise itself, about a man who aged backwards, is extremely bizarre and weird, but, other than that, it's just a weird love story.

OK, it has its fine moments where I find it touching and nice. And the many beautiful shots the movie had like the sunrise, the shots around the hotel, etc. And I totally understand what Tilda Swinton's character, Elizabeth Abbott said:
"I kept waiting, thinking I would
do something to change my
circumstance... Do something...
But I never did... It's an awful
waste, you can never get it
back... wasted time..."
. And the "Did I ever tell you that I was strike by lightning 7 times" moments where a brief clip of a man being hit by lightning in a different way each time he said it is so funny.

But emotionally, I did not invest myself inside the movie. Unlike my two friends who I watched it with, I did not cry. No, it's NOT because that my human feeling is UNDERDEVELOPED, as my stupid and shallow friend had written in her blog. I'm perfectly capable to feel and be touched emotionally, as proven when I watched the Japanese drama series, 'One Litres Of Tears'. Somehow, I just don't really connect with the story.

you know, I was watching the movie when I heard sniffing next to me. I turned around and I saw her taking out a tissue to dry her eyes. Then, next thing I know, my friend sitting next to her asked for a tissue from her. I was like, wow, is it really THAT touching?

Overall, Benjamin Button is nice, but I just prefer Slumdog Millionaire. In fact, I'm rooting for it to win the Oscars. How nice it is, staying in Penang where I can watch movies that Ipoh simply don't have (except pirated!).

Love Is In The Air!

It's that time of the year again where all the couples in the world go parading their loves while the singles are left alone miserably, wondering what wrong with them. Well, not all of them la...some choose to be alone one. Me? I think my other half still M.I.A. Hopefully...

Life's without the special someone is rather sad. Somehow, you'll feel that there's a void inside your heart that can only be filled by him/her. I've been longing to experience what it's like to be in loved...like the great words from Moulin Rouge, "The greatest thing you'll ever learned is just to love, and be loved in return."

I wanna share with you guys what my friend said the other day. We were heading for dinner after our class finished. Our topic of conversation was, well, love and Valentine's and stuff. She was asking me why I'm still single given that in USM, almost 80% of the students here were females. Out of the 80%, can't I find the one? Then, she followed up with this:

"Here, men are like some rare species. It's so hard to find a nice guy. And when you do find one, it's either that the guy is attached to another person or he's gay."

It was so funny...

Anyhow, Happy Valentine's, people! 情人节快乐!

  3. I first wore specs when I'm Form4...until then I had 20/20 vision...mana tau too much TV really ruined your eyes sight...

In the Mood of Singing

OMG, I'm singing in public!

Not this pro!

The story's like this:

I was sitting in the foyer hall there with my friend, each of us blasting our laptops with Korean and Japanese songs, recommending this and that. Then, out of boredom, I shift to ABBA songs and started singing along. Then, she joined along singing. Boy, she can sing (compliment here!) and she does sing out loud (at least louder than me!). I was afraid people might come and tell us, "GET A ROOM!"(K-box room OK!). Luckily, it's night and not a lot of people are in the hall.

Now, singing Moulin Rouge! soundtrack...Oh gosh, gonna go K soon...

Dilemma

Shit!!! What should I do?

Ok, the situation here...

I got like 4 days off this coming weekend (make it 4 1/2 la since I'm gonna skip some classes on Tues). Nothing to do at all except on Friday night where I have to attend the AIESEC Malam Mesra. There is always an option, that is going back Ipoh for the weeekend. But knowing myself, I won't be studying AT ALL back in Ipoh (I DOUBT I'm gonna study here also) when I got an exam next Thursday.

If I'm not going back, here's what I'm gonna do...
  • clear and organise my room in uni (messy and dirty)
  • study
  • watch those stuffs I've downloaded
  • eat alone (my roommate and friends somehow won't be here this weekend)
  • rot
Somehow, I got a feeling that when my roommate came back, he'll find me like this
BORED TO DEATH!!!

If I were to go back,
  • meet up with friends
  • celebrate Chap Goh Meh with family
  • free and delicious meal (and not alone)
  • play cards
  • download stuffs
  • meet up with relative
  • the list go on and on...
I kinda decided already, isn't?

Eat. Gamble. Sleep. Eat. Gamble. Sleep.

That's pretty much summarized what I did during the week-long CNY break. While I did online every night of the week, I'm too lazy to update my blog. Hehe.

So, here's a short update on the last few days:

25 Jan
Went to reunion dinner. This year, instead of going to my Grandma's house in Simee, we were all heading to my auntie's new house in Victoria Park. Wow, her house is very pretty. While it's nothing grand or stuff, it still looks nice. Maybe because my relative didn't see me for a long time, they said that I got thinner. Huh? Really meh? Hmmm...The food were of the usual. I'm not a picky eater aka dustbin but I always love sambal petai though. After dinner, went to play blackjack. Didn't exactly count my wallet before playing, therefore, no idea if I win or lose.

26 Jan
It's first day of CNY. Woke up around 10am (don't bother waking up early) and got myself ready to go 拜年(bai nin or visit people's houses). Went to my Grandma's house 1st then followed by my auntie's house. Hmmm, seem like this year the gathering place got shifted to her house. Again, the same routine, eat, gamble, TV, gamble, eat, gamble.

Family portrait

27 Jan
This time it's my marternal side we're visiting. Woke up earlier even though their houses are like within walking distances from my house (but we don't walk) because my uncle from KL will be going back KL later in the afternoon following my cousin who had dinner to attend there. No idea why he and my auntie (the cousin's mom) tagged along with him since they will just stay at my uncle's house there and chat. Is chatting in KL somewhat sweeter? Took ang pows and gamble a lil before going to my gram's for lunch. The whole day spent doing the same things.

Brother and sisters

28 Jan
Again, my auntie's house. This time going there for steamboat. Same routine.

My cousin sister

29 Jan
Went out JJ to meet with Audrey, Ann Li, Pui Yee, Kah Meng, Siew Yan they all. Yik Hoe ran away to who-knows-where, leaving me behind alone with the bunch of girls. Walked around and talked, talked, talked. Super crowded. Audrey and Ann Li gatecrashed my house! While they find my lil sister adorable and cute, there exists communication problems as my sis only speaks Mandarin and lil Cantonese while both of them are bananas. My sister even called them stupid (sorry la, she's still young).

30 Jan

Went dinner at The Ramen Shop with Eric, Yee Leng, Shu Xuan and others (lazy to name all) to celebrate Shu Xuan's birthday. After dinner went to Kinta River Front yum cha. Had my love life read by Yee Leng. Quite accurate I guess. Then went Shu Xuan's house played chor dai dee till almost 4am. WITHOUT MONEY. I also dunno how can play for so long.

31 Jan
Stayed at home played cards with my parents. Dinner at my auntie's again.

My sister, a natural cam-whore
My nephew, Dylan...Yea, I'm an uncle...

1 Feb
Joined Stef for lunch at JJ and to do some shopping. Then watched All's Well Ends Well 2009 with my family in Parade. Damn, the cinema in JJ were like super pack...can't even buy a ticket without booking but different case in Parade. My parents bought the tickets on the spot without booking. The movie's quite funny especially Sandra Ng. She's a great comedienne.

Tadda, a week's event listed out. So boring la my life. Now it's like almost 1am. Going back Penang later around 8.45am and still haven't fully packed. Shit!
